The 'id' column the number you see in the book folders - i.e. The Book (1234). It's the glue that makes calibre work… I bring it to into the sunshine with a virtual column.

Why do I show it in the Book list.

It provides a column for book related icons, e.g. a folder indicates the book has a 'data' folder, a diode indicates the book has 'conversion options'.
I need it when I edit a calibre:// URL — e.g. I paste patterns (from a global snippets library) into a long text column e.g. calibre://view-book/_hex_-426f6f6b73/NNNN/PDF and then replace the NNNN in with the relevant Book #.
