Just had a really odd experience on my after lunch walk ... I think I was just hunted (as prey) by a hawk

Background - there are 2 nesting hawk couples in my neighborhood - one pair in trees close to my house - they like to perch on my mailbox and scan for squirrels. So I'm used to seeing and hearing them. There are also several flocks of crows resident here too - who delight in tormenting hawks & owls during daylight hours - you get used to hearing angry hawk cries.

So today I hear annoyed hawk calls when I exit the house - that persist - even though I don't hear any crows. As I walk (our neighborhood is laid out on a circle) I notice that the volume level of the hawk calls remains the same - all the way around the circle (approx. 1 mile) - it's following me? No crow calls at all, or other bird sounds.

When I reach my house the hawk suddenly swoops down in front of me at eye level not more than 6 feet in front of me, banks off my hedge and lands on my neighbor's roof - keeping me in sight. I scurry up my driveway and back inside. It's the closest I've ever been to a hawk.
