I just stopped reading Flesh by David Szalay, which was inexplicably on this year’s Booker Prize longlist. The main character has no emotional depth at all. All he says is “Okay” no matter what anyone else says, except for the occasional time when the author has him say “yeah” instead of “okay”, just to mix it up a bit I guess. Most boring book with most boring lead character ever.
