Regarding the identification, it has a SD so it is either a 905B or a 905C, but the printing has faded, are there any other marking to tell B and C apart? Worst case, what would happen if I use the wrong firmware? Would it brick the device or would I just need to use the other one?
You would just need to try the other image since it is unlikely that you would cause hardware damage. I would suggest either a SanDisk or a Samsung µSD card since in my testing, they consistently have the best small block results. And almost all the read/write operations on an ereader are small block.
