My major issue with the plethora of Linux distributions is that most of them seem to go out of their way to supply incompatibilities. Within distro families, it's not as bad but if you go from a distribution family to a different family (Slackware, Arch or SUSE or pretty much any other family) distribution, a wipe and reinstall (or in my case, spinning up a new VM) is the best way to go.

I currently have 9 VMs in use, Windows 11 Preview, MacOS and 7 different Linux distributions though some might argue about VMWare's Proton OS being a distribution. Other Linux VMs are openSUSE Tumbleweed, Gentoo Linux & Arch Linux. Hmmm... looking at it, 5 of the Linux distros I have installed are rolling release variants. Gentoo is the most "fun" since it goes back to the bad old days of compiling from source.
