Seriously (well as seriously as you want to take it at any rate) I did make some fairly scathing comments about being ignored by the MR great and good and got a few comments back (so not being ignored that time, then). To the eternal credit of all concerned (and to my shame) all those comments were positive and encouraging - as were a couple of PMs received as well. If this thread stops other people feeling like I did - even momentarily - then a big

All I can say is that I believed what I wrote at the time - it's clear now that my outburst was perhaps a little premature (a premature ejaculation if I can say that!) and that I grossly underestimated the inherent friendliness and inclusivity of the folks here at MR.
Now...to answer some (but not all) of those questions:
- I don't really like dogs or cats that much but would opt for cats if I had to pick (dogs are just too needy).
- My username comes from a nickname at work where a mentor had the nickname Gandalf.
