I suppose to their credit, references to Google Play support no longer appear in product description. They've removed the (aging) video reviews. The 'how to activate GP' blog article @DNSB referenced is still there. The blog articles read like they are AI generated.
Some recent reviews:

Kindle, Kobo, Libby are pre-installed. Native support includes PDF, ePub, mobi, cbz.
It seems the PDF support is not making actual PDF annotations, and export is like Scribe: a facsimile of the original PDF with image of your annotations on top. For actual PDF roundtrip, maybe Acrobat Reader mobile app or something like that runs well enough?
They have shipped the voice memo update as previously announced, with ability to transcribe, some refinements to workflow, and minor improvements to drawing tools. The update walkthrough video shows Kindle app briefly as they clip a 'PDF' Page and mark it up for some notebook.
It's odd (one could say 'suspicious') that there are only 171 customer reviews and nobody has anything bad to say about the device, or how crappy some Android app runs on it. Or even describe much about what they are doing with it or why it is better than the other devices they've tried.
It's still 'marked down' $250US ($549) if you purchase directly, and there's an additional 12% educational discount if you have a .edu mailing address to confirm.
