"Mindful reading"...
The last time I encountered that nonsense was when a friend of mine dragged me to a session since I was "such a reader". The instructor was telling people to read each word out loud. Evidently hearing yourself speak made it easier to focus on the words and to slow your reading process down a "tiny bit". Other things such as finding a quiet place with no distractions, no ambient noise and nothing moving in the area to distract you. A place where you can sit in an comfortable upright position before starting to read. You should then spend 5 to 10 minutes breathing mindfully before starting to read, preferably ringing a bell or chime before and after your mindful breathing. Once these preludes are over, you can begin reading.
I was booted from the session when I asked what this rigmarole actually did for improving what students learned from reading? Was there any empirical evidence that it improved comprehension and retention? Evidently suggesting that we should look for improvements in test results was a step past simple blasphemy.
To attempt to wander back in the direction of the topic, I find my Kobo Sage to be very comfortable to hold and the 8" screen is very easy to read. Basically, I don't notice it while I am reading.
