Tolino Shine 2 HD bricked after failed 12.2.0 update – stuck in update loop, no USB a
Hi everyone,
I hope someone here can help – my Tolino Shine 2 HD is stuck in an update loop and seems to be completely bricked after trying to update to firmware version 12.2.0.
Here’s exactly what happens:
- Upon startup, the device immediately tries to download and install the 12.2.0 update.
- The download fails instantly (even when the device is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi).
- I can't access the main menu or any other function – it just goes straight back to the update attempt.
- Reset button (pinhole) does nothing – it just reboots into the same update loop.
- Holding the power button (even for 30 seconds) doesn’t help.
- I tried booting without Wi-Fi (turned off router) – still goes to update.
- USB connection to PC doesn’t work – no prompt on the Tolino screen and no device appears on the computer (Windows & Linux tested).
- Device is out of warranty.
I suspect the update file is corrupted or the system is stuck in a boot/update loop with no recovery fallback. Is there any way to:
- Access recovery mode (if one exists)?
- Flash the firmware manually (e.g. using ADB, RKTools, or other methods)?
- Get a working update.zip or image for the Shine 2 HD (Tolino’s support site doesn’t offer firmware downloads)?
Any help or instructions would be greatly appreciated. I’m comfortable using the command line or tools like ADB if needed.
Thanks in advance!
