Wish it was that easy.
Right clicking the shortcut, properties, points to
"C:\Program Files\Calibre2\calibre.exe"
Open File Location, right click calibre.exe, properties, shows File Version 8.7.0
Running calibre.exe from Command prompt in the folder itself, starts Calibre which shows 'calibre 7.9* created by Kovid Goyal' (bottom left on status bar) and 'Update found: 8.7.0' bottom right.
Windows shows under Installed Apps - Calibre 8.7.0, the executable shows 8.7.0, so it shouldn't be saying Update found and correct version should show.
Also, I uninstalled Calibre, and verified the program folder was removed and searched for calibre.exe on all drives, which doesn't show any other executables. Ran 8.7.0 install and no joy.
One thing I did notice was that under AppData\Roaming\calibre\gui.json was that the last line in the gui config file (which I do not edit via the .json)
"windows_register_default_programs": "7.9.0" whereas on a different computer that 8.7.0 was successfully installed it shows
"windows_register_default_programs": "8.7.0"
So for giggles, I backed gui.json up and manually changed that last line from 7.9.0 to 8.7.0. When I started Calibre, it automatically changed back to 7.9.0
I checked my library via Library Maintenance - Check Library and there where no problems.
