All I do with calibre (for years) is just click the date column and when it's sorting from newest to oldest that's me done. When I close calibre and then open it again, it's sorting by date as I want. No problem at all. The only time I've used the View Manager plugin was when there was a bug in calibre and it didn't keep the column widths correctly. I don't have View Manager installed.
