Oasis 3: sudden total wifi failure

So starting about three days ago, I suddenly find I can't connect to wifi: even after a rescan, the list of APs is always empty. Manual connection says "the network information you entered is incomplete."

I backed up the Kindle, did a forced update to 5.18.2 (it was on 5.16.1.1 still). Nothing changed. I tried a factory reset (at the suggestion of support). Nothing changed except that (of course) I'll need to refill the Kindle and half its features are now unavailable because it's not registered.

Bluetooth still works, so "simple setup" from the phone gets as far as wifi registration and then fails and the Kindle apparently disconnects from the phone's Bluetooth link (with a message where the Kindle blames the phone for disconnecting and vice versa).

Is this thing unregistrable? What features have I lost? (Buying books, obviously, but I guess collections too?)

Is it time to give up, consider this Kindle broken except for reading KFX books I can't convert (that are already on it), and sideloaded books, and buy something else? (Something not Amazon, after all their recent lockdown dreadfulness. Probably a Sage, though their battery life is reportedly awful. I'd really like a Forma...)
