I don't shrink covers. Both my Kobos have 32GB and I don't keep all my ebooks on my ereaders, so I don't have even a third of the space on them filled.

I hate seeing low-res covers on my computer with its 4K screen. Things were different 15 years ago, but these days I want my covers to be high res.
