I don't need color but I didn't want to exclude the Kobo. I don't think the Kobo Libra 2 is produced anymore.

Technically, which is the better reader?

I need:

USB-C
Waterproof

I would like:

Flush screen (no dirt in edges)
Fast response/refresh time
Privacy focused / no Ads or collection of private data / Less store integration
KO Reader
I think they all have USB-C and are IPX8 water rated. I think they can all do KOReader too.

The Kobo does not have a flush screen. It is very responsive and refreshes fast but be aware color has contrast tradeoffs some find unacceptable. Personally I really like mine. There's no ads on Kobo and you can use a sideload mode to even sidestep logging in with a Kobo account.

I haven't used the Pocketbooks or a pocketbook at all so I can't comment on them too much. I think based on specs they might be slower but perhaps the software makes up for it.
