Yea, I've initially tried to use a 50% transparent white background on the container which holds the image, so that in case the theme gets changend without adapting the image at least there is a background for contrast (sepia is no issue at all since it's pretty similar to white). However, this kind of background will not get honored by all reader. Next try was to use a 1px 50% transparent white PNG pixel, but also not suitable for an overall solution.
So my conclusion is, that there a tons of crappy reader which all wanna be treated princess like, and I'm not willing to do so. Since I'm not publishing for commercial I can do so and just try to get some reader working. All the other ones: have a nice day and quoting Elon: go fys.
