For what it may be worth, the Kobo Forma used an 8" Mobius display. No issues with it's front light. Given that the panel used by AiPaper can be supplied with the touch/digitizer, front light, protective, etc. layers from the factory, I tend more to the suspicion that the decision to not have a front light was based on reducing power use and weight.
