I ended up bailing on this. Poor mindset and poor timing. I started to skim and finally acknowledged there wasn't a point in pushing through. I'd like to take another stab at it some day, but I think I'll plan mostly to read it; it's just so darned long and it's hard to focus when so much of it has nothing at all to do with the plot.
