Calibre auto-converting epub to kepub -- how do I stop it?

I have just upgraded from Calibre 7 to Calibre 8, and my epubs are now being auto-converted to kepub.

Today I transferred some epubs to my Libra, but noticed that they were converted to kepub by the upload process. The file in my Calibre library is called X.epub, but what lands on the device is called X.kepub.epub.

In "Configure device" the list of formats to send was: epub, kepub, pdf, txt. It sent as kepub even though epub precedes it in the list.

I removed kepub completely, so the list is now: epub, pdf, txt. Still it converts to kepub.

What do I need to do to stop this unwanted behaviour?
