Personally, I would not recommend making collections from the % read or read status. Too many collections can cause severe problems. At this point, my only collection is Finished.

I've attached an image on my columns and the Finished column definition.

I am also curious as to why you do not have any options selected on the Metadata, on device and advanced tab. Do you have Automatic metadata management selected on the Send to device setup preference?

As for the severe problems with too many collections? I attempted to use an old Android tablet I still had around with a very early version of the Kobo Android app to set up a colour display device for a granddaughter. Unfortunately, something glitched and it created a collection for every date entry so >3000 entries. This did not seem to have much of an effect on the Android tablet but on my Kobo eink readers, I was looking at reboots, timeouts, error popups, stack log error logs, etc. once the Kobo servers synchronized those collections back to my Sage, Libra Colour, etc.
