I'm... not sure what I think of it so far. I sort of like it. But there's just enough oddities and inconsistencies that I can't entirely buy it as a prequel to the original 1960s series and i can't really mesh that together in my head.

Ergh, I watched the third ep and suddenly they're using TNG-era technology which ends up causing some enormous holes in some TOS episodes (for example, biofilters would neutralize the "can't bring the plague back to the ship" that stranded the landing party in a few episodes). There's also other inconsistencies with history and technology and characters and.. well, everything that I just can't buy this takes place in the same timeline. But another timeline?
There's a TNG episode where Worf keeps traveling between parallel timelines, eventually resulting in a 'quantum fissure' and the amazing line "At this rate, the sector will be completely filled with Enterprises within three days." And the Abrams movies were based on one of these
split timelines.
So yeah, my personal canon is that SNW (and Discovery, which preceded it but I not seen) is in a different timeline from TOS. Because I can't reconcile it otherwise.
That said, its a pretty nice show and Im actually enjoying it.
