Talking about that last thing. The very next time I synced after fixing all my Kobo cover images (missing or bad images, missing folders), syncing finally started working again, for the first time in well over a year. And it has remained working for over a month now, even though I now have a handful of cover images again, that need fixing.

It is somewhat passing strange, that none of the cover images I've fixed, every go missing again, so I imagine that at some point I will have fixed all cover images, aside from latest additions which will likely continue to result in cover images failure at some point.

It seems fairly clear to me, that there is a bug in the Kobo software, that is related to missing cover images or their folders, which prevents syncing from finishing. I don't think it is a direct relationship, as there is likely something else at play too.
And you've also paid for the USB port on your Kobo.
