PDFs open to first page

For the past few months (since I've gotten my device) I've been able to view PDFs properly on my Kobo. As in, upon opening, I'm taken to the last page that I was on, and any (annotation) bookmarks I made would remain where I set them.

Today, I went in to a PDF editor to add some (pdf-embedded) bookmarks that would act as a table of contents in kobo. I reloaded the PDFs, and now I'm no longer taken to my last viewed page upon reopening the document. Additionally, my (annotation) bookmarks are on the first page as well once I reopen the document.

I assumed it was caused by something with the PDF editor, so I tried different ones, but still had the same issue. Then, I deleted the files that didn't work and re-uploaded my original, un-edited files that I didn't ever have any issues with. Except it's still not saving my bookmarks in the proper place or returning me to the page I left on.

I'm not sure what the issue could be, this isn't happening for any other type of document, and hasn't ever been an issue in the past. I'd appreciate any help or insight. Please let me know if any other information is needed.
