Did you force WiFi on at some point? If you have developer mode enabled, you can check in More => Settings => Device Information => Developer Options => Force WiFi ON. This can also be done from a NickelMenu item which will toggle between forcing WiFi on and turning off forcing WiFi on. If you use NickelMenu, the checkmark in the Force WiFi ON box will toggle.

If you are not using NickelMenu or Developer Mode, do a search for devmodeon which will enable developer mode and check the status of Force WiFi on. You can then search for devmodeoff which will disable developer mode.

On a couple of occasions when I was connecting to my Kobo over WiFi, I toggled this and then wondered a couple of days later "Why is my battery draining so fast?"
