The last one I answered was about my "grandson" who landed in jail in Mexico and his "friend" was calling to see if I could send bail money. I spent about 15 minutes playing the more than half senile grandparent who couldn't figure out how to send the money and kept screwing up the instructions. Sadly, after 15 minutes they gave up on me.

My 94 year old mom has a friend who fell for this a few years ago. Fortunately she told the bank teller why she was asking for a money order/bank check. (Not sure what method she was trying to use) The bank manager explained the scam to her, so her money was safe. I think she was in her mid 80's at the time.
My daughter had a friend, whose mom sent thousands of dollars to a sweepstake scam. The police even went to her and told her it was all a scam. She kept sending money for a couple of years. She has since passed away, convinced to the end she was going to come into a fortune.
