Do not do this:

The recommend way to add kindle books to your library from your kindle is:

connect kindle to pc--click device view in calibre--find the kindle books you wish to add to calibre high ligth them then right click--add to library
This works every time, drag/drop does not work every time in my experience.

You will need the KFX Input plugin, the DeDRM plugin, and then KFX Output plugin.

KFX Input is for combining all the files of the KFX into one. DeDRM is to remove the DRM. KFX Output is to be able to convert the KFX to a different format.
