You can still workaround it using the plugin "coverimage". It is known to work on PBs: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/8046
It isn't fully automated. It is expected that you setup the plugin first to save the cover of current book in a place you know and then tell your PB system to use that image path on suspension.
The issue linked contains the settings you need to tweak on the plugin (ie: Grayscale BMP)

Hello I have questions. Does this mean that I need to manually follow the instruction of saving cover image whenever I read a new book? Also does this mean that I need to delete the other cover images whenever switching to another book?
