There are two options that may help. One is to apply the patch to reduce the space between words in KePub. I don't know if that will work in the current color firmware. The other option is to install the font ChareInk6SP. That has a reduced size space so that again will help to reduce the gap sizes. 8.4 with the justification optimized provides the same output as the old Kobo Extended + Calibre 7 now, AFAICT
