Kindle for PC 2.4.1 had already added at least one new encryption algorithm that remains unbroken via DeDRM. And since then Kindle for PC 2.7 added additional protection of the key in the form of kinf2024. Defense in depth.

Exactly. True for all systems. You need the keys(s) and the specific algorithm (more than just the family).
However the weak point of ALL DRM, unlike a standalone encrypted message, is that the consumer gadget must actually have the key and the algorithm in it. Also ultimately the "analogue" consumption (point a camera etc).
DRM is plain evil and mainly inconveniences law abiding consumers.
