It worked. The process was a little confusing but simple and resulted in a epub. The epub size is much bigger than the epub that I got from downloading the book to one of my older Kindles, transferring to Calibre and using KFX input to convert.
I haven't tried to look at the differences.
FWIW: the BookFab converter provides an interesting message before it begins the download: it says that "download has now been authorized".

I couldn't workout how to convert a book to see if the DRM would be removed at first, but then I thought I had worked out how to do it, but the download failed. Oh well.
