I have tested it with a fresh install of K4PC 2.7.1 (70978) and I was able to download two books released after April 22 as DRM-free EPUBs. One was released on May 7 and the other May 9.
I also had to "fiddle around a bit to get the first download working." But "once it starts downloading, though, it seems to stabilize."
I'm not sure if the fiddling around with it has to do with where you're located. I'm in Canada but the application initially brought me to Amazon.com in the built-in browser. But I changed it to Amazon.ca and logged into my account there.
It kept on trying to switch back to Amazon.com and when I tried to download a book it appeared to get stuck on the "Analyzing..." stage. When it finally said it was downloading the book it would fail. So, I restarted both K4PC and BookFab several times and then eventually I was able to download the first book. The second book then downloaded seamlessly.
