I haven't tested this, but it may be a low-tech solution for now. Try one of those timers that turn on a lamp for a user-specified duration. Just plug in your charger instead of a lamp. Charge your Kindle first, then let the timer charge it for, say, an hour every day. You'll still have to check the charge level, but you may be able to work out a good schedule.
