For what it may be worth, very few Kindle Unlimited books are not exclusive to Amazon. And since they are loans not purchases (without opening the license vs. purchase can of worms), removing DRM and keeping them is an immoral act much the same as borrowing a library book and keeping a copy. Unlike books you purchase and, at least in theory have the right to keep in perpetuity, making copies of borrowed books simply makes you an ebook pirate.

You might also want to consider that if you do not read the original copy on the original device or app it was downloaded on, the author will not receive any reimbursement.

As for which Kindle to buy? At this time, it seems the rumour that many of the early Kindles will no longer be able to download Amazon purchases in the not too distant future has some truth to it so purchasing a 4th gen or earlier Kindle would likely not be a good idea. 5th generation devices are iffy at this point.
