I eventually ditched Dropbox Sync on Pocketbook, which creates so many backup files and there is nothing I can do to change that behavior. I switched to Syncthing and now the annotations.lua files are synced and imported to the second device. Let's call it device A.

I appreciate your work.

I have one question (issue) though: When the device A imports the annotation, all existing bookmarks in the device A that are not in the annotation are now gone. The imported annotation file just makes a new set of annotations on the device A. Can it be a merged one (keeping the annotations originally created in the device A) so that all annotations created by different devices are retained?

I actually try using as it is, meaning forcing the sync process to make sure when the second device reads the book, it can see the updated lua file and import it, then I can make new annotations.... But you know, it is almost impossible to do that all the time.

I'm also wondering about the third, forth... devices....
