Huge is more than 50,000.
500 is tiny.
Most 32 G ereaders can manage more than 15,000 ebooks.
You can import an ebook (and reading stats via Kobo utilities), save annotations, delete the ebook on Kobo, convert that ebook, (the original is renamed), send new version and then reconnect a 2nd time when Kobo has imported it, and restore reading position, which might not work due to content changing. You can't write back the annotations, but you can save them.
