After my Sony became long in the tooth, I purchased a Kobo reader (I don't remember the model number) and it seemed like every other ebook on the device would crash while I was reading. Or it would crash when I tried to open the ebook.
Navigating to the ebooks would sometimes cause the device to crash.
At the time I remember checking out the forums to see if anyone else was reporting issues like I was experiencing and I found enough that I decided to return the device and try the Pocketbook instead.
The same ebooks that crashed on the Kobo opened just fine on the Pocketbook HD2. Maybe I had a lemon device but at the time I decided to just go with another vendor.
