Sounds like the kindle’s screen saver may been disabled using ;ds in the search bar or by some other means. From personal experience on a kindle signature 12 gen, disabling the screen saver, and therefore sleep mode, causes the power button to become unresponsive. A reboot would restore things.

Maybe something happened behind the scenes while the screen saver was visible (i.e., lipc-set-prop). I did this with a personal screen saver that I was working on and I couldn’t get back to showing the kindle’s normal screen because the power button no longer worked.
