That kind of circus sounds perfect to me.
The animal thing always disturbed me, even though I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan like some of my close friends, I still don't like seeing animals mistreated for entertainment. Especially elephants. When I saw those elephants as a kid I became extremely sad and asked to be taken home. There's something in an elephant's eyes that is melachonlic, even more so when they're being dressed up and paraded about.
I went to see La Machine when they came to Liverpool, and that was amazing, the giant spider climbing up the side of the building floored me, I couldn't stop looking at the thing. I suppose that's what I picture in my head now when I think of Circuses, and I'd hope if animals were needed they could do something along those lines in the future instead of actual animals (but they're not in Wood's Pandemonium Carnivale).
