Also chapters can be one paragraph or 100 pages. They can vary in a book or be similar length.
% is useless. 50% of Ulysses is very different to 50% of War of the Worlds.

What does work well is ADE page numbers because they are consistent and don't rely on display settings such as font, font-size, line height, etc.
