The idea is to allow eBook downloads on a Kindle (that still gets firmware updates) but block firmware updates. So blocking all of Amazon's domains will not work.

This is so eBooks can be downloaded and the DRM removed. If a new firmware gets released that changes the DRM, then getting eBooks would not work as DRM would not be able to be removed.
