It is the panel view animation. double click a corner and see what happens when turning pages in panel view mode. I think it looks terrible.

Edit: oh. Looks like the page turn animation option isn't visible for some books. Hmmmm. When did that happen?

Edit2: panel view changes caused the option to dissapear. The animation still works if you enabled the option in a different book. So it's just a UI bug where the option isn't visible in the KCC converted book. I'm pretty sure this is a kindle OS bug with mobi files...
