You problem is probably related to how or where you unpacked the archive you downloaded. Connect the Kindle to your computer and check if you have "koreader" folder at the top level of kindle drive. If it's there open it and check if it contains file "koreader.sh" inside of it.
Make screenshots that show contents of both folders I've mentioned and share them here.

I unpacked the archive with peazip by extracting directly to my Kindle drive. The "koreader" folder is there, but not exactly at the top level? Now when I press any of the options to start Koreader, it exits to my Kindle homepage, the screen fades to white and shows "Starting KOReader...", and then changes to the Kindle reboot screen with the progress bar before going back to the homepage.
