Agreed, the displays are currently very expensive, but the company have got a few years of R&D ( and all the other add-ons,like power, materials, equipment, wages, 5 layers of insurance etc.) to pay for with their current income - the now developed E-ink display, before they can start realistically reducing the price.
With a research venture like the one they have undertaken, companies can easily be £10,000,000 in debt before they even get a marketable product -once they have the product, this debt needs to be paid before the prices will start coming down.
