Trying to get STARTED doing public library epubs

We are a couple of the LEAST technically capable people anywhere, so please keep lack of knowledge in mind.

I’d like to get epub books from the public library on our tablets. I just want to read the ebooks on our Samsung Tablets, in a half decent ebook reader, then get rid of the book when we’re done with it (and “return” it to the library).

I can currently GET the epub library books from the library, put them on the tablet, and have the epub file be visible, but I can’t READ anything – I presume this is the encryption or DRM or whatever is making it impossible to read the books from our library?

When I try to get ebooks, something called Adobe Digital Editions runs, and I get the epub files, but I don’t have any content.

Currently we’re using Coolreader, and it works well for us. And on old books or free books or books that aren’t locked or encrypted or whatever they are, it works fine.

But if I go out to my public library and download an ebook, nothing shows up when I try to display the book contents. Do I need a different ebook reader or is there something - I saw a reference to "DRM" - I need to do to read the books in an e-reader?

Does someone have a basic guide or knowledge of how to do what I HOPE is a pretty basic thing? Is there an epubs for Idiots somewhere?

Is “Libby” the application I should be using for this? Is there something else that would work better without being impossible to use?
