Hello all,
I've got my K4 jailbroken (is that the correct participle?), I've got MKK and Python installed and screensavers working properly so I can use an image of my own creation, or use the cover of the last book.
I can't seem to get KUAL or MRPI working.
Following the instructions in the Install "KUAL itself" spoiler
here it looks like I need to copy KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 from the legacy/non-coplate version in KUAL-v2.7.35-g2d06358-20250103.tar.xz into my documents, and then click on the resulting document in my library. But when I do that, I get an error:
An error occurred: Main class instantiation threw a RuntimeException. Please contact the developer.
I've also tried using the Booklet from the same tarball, Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.35_install.bin in the USB root of the Kindle — the machine then claims to update successfully, but I can't see any difference once it restarts. And I also tried the corresponding file from the coplate version, KUAL-18b218e-20250103/Update_KUALBooklet_18b218e_install.bin, just in case, but the same thing happens. Should I be trying them in the mrpackages directory instead? But I think if KUAL isn't working then MRPI isn't either, right?
I've tried doing the
;log mrpi thing at various points in this process, and it's never done anything at all.
I wonder if maybe I have correctly installed KUAL, but I just can't find how to start it, and I'm flapping about like an idiot missing the obvious! I don't seem to have a Home screen distinct from the library, so the only menus I have are what I get when I click the physical menu button. I tried installing the KUAL Helper menu, and Ko Reader, and either they're not installed or I just can't see them.
The RuntimeException makes me think KUAL just isn't installed properly, though.
If anyone can see anything obvious that I'm doing wrong, or anything I should be checking or looking out for, I'd be really grateful for your help.
Thanks!
