Since KOReader can sync with Calibre if Calibre was able to sync with online book store libraries this would allow Kindles and other ereaders to be interoperable with many ebook retailers. This could be used in conjunction with Calibre plug ins that remove DRM to make things easier. I think the way this could be achieved is plugin which:

1. Sync to Google Play Books (which also allows you to upload books which are DRM free from other sources).
2. Kobo store
3. eBooks.com
4. iBooks

I'm sure there are others but these seem to be the most popular ones
There is no need for this. You can use the DeACSM plugin along with the DeDRM plugin to download your ePub to calibre and remove the DRM at the same time. DeACSM would download the ePub using the ACSM file and DeDRM would remove the DRM all in one go.

As for Apple, forget trying to remove the DRM. It cannot be done. But the other three yes the DRM can be removed.
