I've been thinking about this point since the DX was announced yesterday.

Either Amazon will need to do a firmware update to include DRM pdf (textbook publishers will not be selling their books without DRM) or they may require the publishers to use a different format for their ebooks.

Using a different format for ebooks would raise another question. Would these publishers create say an .azw format from the original pdf and if so what level of proof-reading will be involved to verify the final product? If one were to convert a textbook from pdf to any other format, imagine the amount of errors that could occur.
