It's not about "still works for me". Proprietary projects have no real future and CC is an example of it.
Even if the current developer of FOSS app abandon/archive the repo, there is still some chance to fork and continue the project in future, which is much better than writing an app from scratch.

Personally I try to avoid proprietary stuff as much as possible. I believe, if we've active FOSS alternative there is no reason to use abandoned proprietary app.
