kindle reports folder as nearly full

I run my Kindle Colorsoft in airplane mode, and all its books were installed and managed by Calibre. I have about 6,300 ebooks on the Colorsoft.

When I install more ebooks I get a message on the kindle that a directory is nearly full with 2000 entries and it suggests I create a new folder in Documents. Is there a change I need to make to how Calibre loads ebooks onto my Kindle? My current save template is:

{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

I have more than 3,000 authors, so perhaps there are to many author_sort folders.
