I read a lot outside in the summer (30°C+), and I'm pretty sure ghosting intensifies with heat. It's got nothing to do with much brighter sunlight, as the same isn't observed when reading outside in lower temperatures. On my old readers, it's even very apparent that ghosting increases as they heat up, after they're brought outside.
It doesn't explain why it's ghosts in one reading program and not in the other, though. But it could explain why some people are not experiencing any. It's still cold season for northern hemisphere. Right now, all my readers exhibit little to no ghosting.
