I download epubs, store them in calibre, convert to mobi for very old kindle keyboard, and put the mobi file onto the kobo.

They seem to be fine as epub.
What happens if I get calibre to convert to keypub?
Any benefits or disbenefits?
What might I notice when reading?
Any other considerations?
Don't convert to Mobi. It's a rather poor format. Convert to KF8 (AZW3) for your KK.

You should try both ePub & KePub and decide for yourself which you prefer to read. By default, ePub is going to look better until your tinker with your Kobo.

As for Mobi, it should no longer ever exist.
